What I find odd is that nobody seems to use a bubble plastic thing (over the water) to keep the steam in the tub and not going into the cover. I have for years and is greatly extends the life of covers. No idea why people wouldn't use this. Costs all of 50 bucks. Sure it is one more thing to remove and put back on for each use, but it is so worth it.

Is it necessary to change the water out of a hot tub periodically? I was under the impression it was the same as pool water, it gets cleaned and maintained, same water unless something serious spills.

I don't think you understand energy efficacy and thermal loss is generally the square of the difference in temp. You touched on the principles and you even suggest keeping your tub a couple of degrees cooler to save energy. Are you an engineer?

Dont let anyone in your hot tub that hasnt showered beforehand and keep extra swimsuits that dont have detergent in them. This will fix most water problems.

Based on your knowledge that sounds like a foreign language to me- is an inflatable pool at 79” x 59” x 20” (440 liters) filled halfway with water and two adults in it safe? So with a hot tub, we only need to really worry about alkalinity pH, and chlorine or bromine? We just bought an inflatable 220 gallon hot tub from Bestway and I’m still trying to learn the chemicals.

Better business rates based on how much the company spends on their rating. It is a business much like Angie’s list. If you are a crap business with tons of bad review’s from the public you go to these rating agency’s and pay them to say you are not s scum bag but an upstanding professional business. Good companies never need to be rated. you know them because your friends used them or bought from them and they are happy.

I wish someone would make a comparison between type of hot tub lids. Specifically we are looking at the Ecospa models because of the hard shell cover. The Ecospa doesn't have the fancy hot tubs we might consider, but to us the hard shell lid is so important. It is important because of our backyard dogs who might chew on a vinyl or fabric cover. What are the opinions and/or covers to stay away from generally. We live in TN.

Hi Jeff I just moved into a house that came with a nice hot tub and we drained and refilled it and are using bromine. The confusion we get is if the bromine levels aren’t high enough does that mean we add shock or more bromine into the floater? I’m just confused when to add the shock. I understand to do it once per week and right after a big party but do I also add extra bromine tablets the next morning after a party and only keep 3 tablets in the floater the rest of the time? How often do you feel you have to check if you still have tablets to replace?

When I shock my hot tub weekly right away the foam reruns doing its thing but getting a brown film at the waterline and hard to remove when it dries. That brown film is in the foam (bubbles) The tub is 2 months old and we did a bio clean using ahh some before using the tub. This brown film looks like when completing ahh some plumbing | jet cleaning. The enhanced shock by SpaGuard Adding 3 tablespoons per 500 gallons
